In the middle of the move....

...no, I haven't even reached the middle yet. What an enormous job to move all my craft things out of one room into another. I'm sure it has all been quietly breeding in the dark recesses.

I have a couple of sets of drawers and shelf units and desks and a lovely old kitchen dresser which holds a ton of goods.

Everything involved emptying a unit..moving said unit then filling it again before I had room to empty the next one.

This was NOT the original plan, I was going to slowly go through everything before it was stored in the new room, but I simply have NO ROOM to do it that way.

Then in the middle of all this, I decided that because the kitchen dresser will be the first thing anyone sees when they walk in, it might be nice to touch up the scratches on the side with some fresh varnish.

As I started to rub them back, the old varnish just began flaking away, it is over 60 years old because it was in my aunts' kitchen all the years I was growing up, so I guess after that time you can expect to be a bit flakey (works for me!)

I finished up doing a little detour in the move, sandpapering all the old varnish off and giving it a couple of fresh coats...I am aching all over!

why do I START these things!!

still have to finish the doors, but I'm not tackling them til next week.

our doll group takes a trip

One of the ladies in our little doll group moved up the coast from Sydney (about two hours drive - one of those hours taken up with just getting across Sydney to the freeway)
She always comes down to Sydney for our meetings but this time it was our turn to go to her place -
now tell me, just how much work do you think you would do living with this at your back door?

art journals on YouTube

Well now - why didn't someone tell me sooner about XP having Windows movie maker!
Another time waster -

I tried making a movie with my camera and playing a cd so they both recorded but that didn't go too well, I couldn't synchronize the music with the end of the movie so it just stopped cold

then I did another movie using some old scans from a travel journal I made a few years ago for my daughter to take on her first trip overseas, this time I added the music and discovered I could fade it in and out, so it's a slight improvement on the first.

I can see why people get hooked on these things - and done properly they can be a great way of showing your art - I've been looking on YouTube for dollmaking and textile work and there isn't half enough there to satisfy my new cravings.

The Sewing Machine song

you might have seen this already - it's on YouTube and currently doing the rounds of textile blogs but the first couple of lines have long been a favourite quote of mine without knowing where they came from:

"Ohhh the sewing machine, the sewing machine
A girl’s best friend
If I didn’t have my sewing machine
I’d a come to no good end.."
