I needed a break from sewing this week and with the first taste of autumn in the air the garden was calling to me - in fact the plants and the weeds were getting quite abusive to each other, so I spent a few days sorting them out.
As relaxation I tore up pieces of paper from old magazines, threw them in the air and hoped they would land in the shape of a dragon.

What If Wednesday
I haven't had a What if for a few weeks so here's a double helping.
What if I take a piece of terylene curtaining fabric with embroidered flowers and needle felt through it -
On the front the embroidered threads just chopped up, but I liked this piece best - worked from the back of the fabric the embroidery merged nicely as the wool pushed through to the front of the fabric, and framed the one flower that was not felted.

and here is a very easy way of adding texture to paper,
paint a layer of gesso onto paper then rubber stamp into the still wet gesso.
Best with a large stamp without too much fine detail, here I used stamps that I had carved into erasers.

Miniature book
my photo a day shot for Jan 12, 2008
I've written about a previous visit to the museum here on my old gardening blog
my photo a day for Jan 13, 2008
aahhh, Sunday morning, nothing like curling up with coffee and a good book!

My friend Gail, from our miniatures group, makes these miniature books.
She writes the stories so she has no problem with copyrights, prints them, binds with hardcovers using a traditional bookbinding method, prints the end papers and dust jacket.

Recipes for Life
I bought this little recipe box in my late teens when I was collecting things for my 'glory box' now I'm really dating myself, only those over a certain age will know what I'm talking about.
Some how this little box has survived the years and my ever declining interest in cooking, not sure if it ever held more than my whole repertoire of 6 cooking recipes.
Now it holds a collection of cards I've collaged with sayings and thoughts that have particularly touched and moved me.
It sits on the window sill over the kitchen bench and I take out a card and prop it in the lid.
